Hours after his inauguration as chairman of a 25-member committee for the establishment of Sokoto State Community Guards, its chairman, Col. Garba Moyi Isa (rtd) resigned his appointment.
His resignation according to LEADERSHIP findings is not unconnected to a video footage in circulation, linking the retired colonel as someone with full knowledge of the banditry happenings in the Eastern flank of the state.
Moyi, a three-term commissioner in the state who addressed newsmen at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Sokoto, said he resigned to save his hard-earned integrity.
He said, “Shortly after my appointment, some disgruntled elements in the state went on a campaign of calumny to tarnish my reputation.
“I served the country till I retired as a Colonel after which I joined politics to serve as the chairman of my local government.
“I also served as the state Commissioner for Security on three different occasions until I resigned during the past administration without any blemish.
“I will never trade my integrity with anything.” No appointment is worth my integrity and so far, I have relinquished my appointment as community guards’ chairman.
“I thank His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Aliyu for finding me worthy of the onerous Appointment.
“I assure His Excellency and the entire people of the state that I am at their service and I will continue to contribute my quota to the progress and development of the state.”
