Principals of secondary schools in Sokoto State will soon begin to enjoy an enhanced salary package reflecting the reality of their service delivery and the herculean tasks they perform. The package will also be extended to primary school teachers.
Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Waziri Tambuwal made the pledge while inaugurating a committee to advise the state government on remuneration for principals of public secondary schools.
Tambuwal charged the 11-man committee headed by a former Head of Service in the state, Buhari Bello Kware, with the task of coming up with modalities for the implementation of this incentives.
According to him, “The enhanced pay package of principals to an appreciable standard should be commensurate to their responsibilities. We are beginning with the remunerations of principals of secondary schools as a first phase because we have a baseline data on them.
“A similar gesture will be extended to our primary schools because, they are the critical foundation for all subsequent educational pursuits. We are considering the consolidation of the salaries of principals, who have reached the appropriate level, ” the governor added.
Assuring the committee of government support, Tambuwal, said, “I have no doubt that the chairman and members of the committee are quite aware of the enormity of the responsibilities we have placed on your shoulders. Your appointment is in recognition of your experiences, dedication and selfless service to Sokoto State and to the nation as a whole.”
