A newly recruited soldier who had just passed out from the military recruitment training at Depot Nigerian Army, Dauda Dedan has allegedly stabbed a Police Constable identified as Aaron John of Taraba State Command to death.
Taraba Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), James Lashen confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP on Wednesday.
He said the incident occurred at 9 pm on Monday in Mayo-Goyi, a suburb of Jalingo town.
Lashen said the late constable was alerted by some residents of Mayo-Goyi about a misunderstanding with the soldier.
He said the police Constable was stabbed to death by the soldier when he went to intervene in the dispute.
The PPRO said the soldier was currently at large, revealing that the army had already commenced investigation into the matter while assuring that the police were tracking the suspect to face the full wrath of the law.
“We have reported the matter to 6 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army and they have given us full assurances of tracking the fugitive soldier and making him available to face the full wrath of the law.
“Both the army and the police are working hand in hand, we have gotten to the house of the soldier and we would ensure he is arrested and is brought to book accordingly,” he said.
The Command maintained that the relationship between the two security agencies remained very cordial.
