The Nigerian Army says its troops have successfully rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of Brigadier General Basil Adonkie (Rtd), who was abducted from her residence yesterday, 1 September 2026.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement on its social media handle, said troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison, following the incident, immediately launched a coordinated pursuit operation along multiple suspected escape routes to locate the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the victim. According to the statement, troops acting on credible intelligence advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis and established contact with the kidnappers.
It added that the criminals, overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower, abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes, leading to the successful rescue of Mrs Adonkie at Angwan Sabo Village.
The troops subsequently intensified the pursuit along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis, while additional forces were deployed to block likely escape routes and prevent the criminals from evading capture.
In a follow-up operation on 2 September 2026, troops intercepted fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The troops captured the two suspected kidnappers and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
