Solomon Buchi Urges Boycott Of Tyla’s Nigeria Show Over Xenophobia Concerns

Nigerian writer and commentator Solomon Buchi has called on Nigerians to boycott South African singer Tyla’s planned concert in Nigeria, arguing that the event should not go ahead without addressing the issue of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

In a video circulating on social media, Buchi questioned Tyla’s silence during periods of violence targeting Nigerians and other African immigrants in South Africa, saying he believes Nigerians should use the proposed concert to send a message against xenophobia.

According to him, the issue goes beyond the Grammy-winning singer as an individual and instead reflects a broader conversation about solidarity and the treatment of Nigerians abroad.

“Tyla must not have that show,” Buchi said, adding that Nigerians should support local artistes instead of welcoming the South African star “with open arms.”

He further suggested that fans who are passionate about Tyla’s music could travel to South Africa to attend her concerts, while encouraging those who choose to attend her Nigerian performance to stage a peaceful protest against xenophobia.

“It’s not about Tyla. I have no beef with her, but it’s about coming together as a people and saying, no, we have a voice and that voice matters,” he said.

His remarks have sparked mixed reactions online. While some social media users agreed with his position, arguing that public figures should speak out against xenophobic violence, others questioned whether entertainers should be held responsible for commenting on political or social issues in their home countries.
