South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordan has publicly pledged his support for the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff final against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The gesture comes just days after both nations were locked in a tense, direct competition for a single World Cup ticket from their group.

Despite the recent rivalry, Jordan set aside any lingering competitive spirit to back the three-time African champions.

In a video message posted on SAFA’s official handle, Jordan reflected on the grueling qualifying campaign that saw Nigeria ultimately pip Bafana Bafana to the top of Group C.

“Nigeria was in our group, it was a tight group, and very stressful,” Jordan admitted, acknowledging the fierce battle that culminated in Nigeria’s advancement to the playoff finals.

His message, however, was one of unequivocal support. “I want to wish Nigeria the best in their match against the Democratic Republic of Congo,” he stated, before extending personal goodwill to Nigerian football leadership.

“To Amaju Pinnick, my friend, and the president of the NFF (Ibrahim Gusau), I wish them the best.”

Jordan’s endorsement was not merely diplomatic but also rooted in a recognition of Nigeria’s footballing pedigree. He lauded the Super Eagles, stating, “Nigeria is a big team, they have players who are among the best in the world, and I hope they will play true to their form and ability and get a good result.”

This vote of confidence from a former rival underscores the high stakes of Sunday’s encounter in Rabat. Nigeria, fresh off a commanding 4-1 semifinal victory over Gabon, will face a resurgent DR Congo side that stunned Cameroon with a 1-0 win to book their place in the final.
