South East Govs Backing Tinubu’s Re-election, Says Ex-Govs

Former governors of the Southeast under the auspices of Southeast Forum of former governors have declared that all the governors of the zone are supporting the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

They stated this at the inaugural meeting of the forum of former governors of Southeast after the formation of the body in Enugu yesterday.

Former governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, who read the communique of the meeting, pledged that they will continue to support the governors of the zone.

“We boldly say that all the governors of Southeast are supporting Mr. President re-election and we are very grateful for them because this is strategic.

“The Southeast Forum of former governors is formed today, April 7th, 2026, to support and advise the presiding governors of the Southeast on key zonal and national matters.

“What was going on and is still going on is that we now have the birth of a forum of former South East governors. Today, the 7th of April 2026” he stated.

He disclosed that some of the former governors are outside the country for medical checkup and medical engagement.

He, however assured that in their  next meeting, they are sure that over 90% of the former governors of Southeast will be in attendance.

Umahi emphasised that the body will  support their  presiding governors of Southeast and advise them on key zonal and national matters.

He disclosed that  the forum shall be for all former governors of the Southeast irrespective of party affiliation and  commended the great works that  governors of the zone are doing for the benefit of our people.

The former governors  commended President Bola Tinubu very highly for all the appointments he gave  to sons and daughters of Southeast, and the for infrastructure revolution in Southeast, just like what he’s doing in other regions of the country.

“We also thank Mr. President for the assistance to the governors of Southeast, and of course, indeed, all governors of the country, which has helped the governors of Southeast in very, very high measures towards the great achievements they have recorded while in their various offices.

“We are grateful to Mr. President and we thank our dear governors of Southeast for their commitment in their face of the people of Southeast, especially infrastructure development and empowerment and security” they stated.

Present at the meeting were former governors Martin Elechi, David Umahi, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Ebonyi and  Enugu States.

Others were  former governors Sullivan Chime, Chris Ngige and Okezie Ikpeazu of Enugu, Anambra and Abia States.
