The Coalition of Southeast Youths (CSEYD), a prominent Igbo political pressure group, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his recent cabinet reshuffle, specifically praising the decision to retain Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as minister of Interior.
The group, which has been vocal in pushing for a cabinet reorganisation, emphasised the need for stronger internal security measures and renewed its call for the merger of the Ministry of Police Affairs with the Ministry of Interior.
According to the CSEYD, this would streamline operations, improve border security, and tackle issues like identity theft more effectively.
“We are particularly pleased that President Tinubu heeded the overwhelming opinion of Nigerians by retaining Dr Tunji-Ojo,” said Wisdom Akunna, the group’s coordinator.
“His leadership has been transformative, with significant improvements in the nation’s correctional facilities and paramilitary services.”
Among the achievements highlighted by the CSEYD were improved conditions in correctional centres, a 50% increase in inmate daily feeding allowances, and the completion of new facilities, such as a furniture factory in Borno State and a garment and shoe factory in Abia State.
