Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen has commiserated with the people and the government of Niger State over the flood disaster that ravaged Mokwa, which left over 100 persons dead, thousands displaced and property destroyed.
In a condolence message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, the Speaker described the natural disaster as tragic and unfortunate, lamenting the huge loss of lives, property, and livelihood of the victims.
Abbas particularly condoled Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and Mokwa community, urging them to remain undaunted in the phrase of the environmental challenge.
He prayed to God for the repose of the victims’ souls and consolation for their families.
While urging the federal government and its relevant agencies to adequately respond to the emergency, the Speaker called on well-meaning Nigerians, including the private sector to come to the aid of those affected.
Similarly, the All Progressives Congress (APC) commiserated with the government and people of Niger State over the devastating floods.
The ruling party sympathised with the families that have lost loved ones and those displaced from their homes as a result of the disaster.
National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka who stated this in Abuja on Saturday, commended the valiant efforts of first responders and courageous citizens engaged in search, rescue and recovery operations in the flood-affected districts.
Morka urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other federal, state and local authorities to expand efforts and interventions to quickly mitigate the impact of the disaster and bring relief to victims.
“It is our prayer that the souls of all who have died may find eternal rest, as we pray for quick recovery and healing for those injured in this tragedy. Amen,” he noted.
