Controversial singer Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, will have his fundamental rights enforcement procedure (FREP) heard at the Federal High Court on Friday.

The announcement was made by his legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, who shared the update on Wednesday via his X handle (formerly Twitter). Adeyanju wrote, “We have finally gotten a date for Akpi’s FREP at the FHC. It’s Friday. A man who did not kill anyone, rob a bank, kidnap or commit a crime arrested & detained by the police on the instruction of Burna Boy for 3 weeks.”

LEADERSHIP recalls that Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, marking his second detention in two months. Adeyanju alleged that Burna Boy orchestrated the rapper’s arrest and detention.

Last week, his lawyer, Stanley Alieke of Law Capitol, issued a statement confirming that his client was facing formal charges in court. Explaining the delay, he wrote, “Akpi was not arraigned last week because the judges were at a conference, and by next week, the courts will shut down for the festive season until late January. This is why litigation is treated as a last resort after exhausting other options, including Alternative Dispute Resolution.”

He added that the case was now before the Federal High Court, Abuja (Court 13).
