Stakeholders have advocated for the use of biotechnology to tackle the scourge of climate change and global warming.

The stakeholders made the recommendation in the just-concluded International Conference on Biotechnology held in Lagos.

The director-general of National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency, Dr Abdulahi Mustapha, in his keynote address charged the researchers against holding the outcome of their researched works.

“Gone are those days when we kept our research on the shelves. We are now out to the people with our researches and discoveries, Biotechnology is meant to enhance the lives of people.

“Biotechnology is to produce multiple technological advances. If we do not embark on inward scientific research and discoveries, we may be forced to depend on other countries,” he said.

The vice chancellor of Trinity University, Professor Clement Kolawole in a chat with LEADERSHIP Weekend explained that the main purpose of the press briefing and workshop which took place in the institution’s premises in Yaba, Lagos, was to intervene in solving many problems that have been battling the people especially in these hard times.

“We want everyone, especially our government, to know that with Biotechnology, we can tackle climate change, global warming so that we can enjoy the benefits and also make our future generation stay healthy.

“Biotechnology is life enhancing technology. This is why we are going to speak on the theme, Biotechnology as a catalyst for sustainable economic development: achieving Sustainable Development Goals through innovation and collaboration.”
