Stakeholders Declare Ekiti Cargo Airport Ready

The construction of the Ekiti State Agro Allied International Cargo Airport began in 2019 under the leadership of the former Governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

The project, according to the then helmsman of the state was geared towards unlocking the vast potential inherent in the state to attract investors, provide easy transportation of agricultural products, job opportunities, boost the socio-economic growth and open the state for rapid development.

History was made on October 15, 2022, the day the airport was inaugurated, which happened to be the very last day of Dr Fayemi in office, when the first aircraft, marked NAF 930 belonging to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) touched down at the newly constructed airport located along Ado-Ijan road, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

On assumption of office in 2022, Governor Biodun Oyebanji continued from where his predecessor stopped by providing all necessary facilities the airport needed to commence full flight operations.

In January 2025, the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) commenced the calibration of landing system at the Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport in readiness for commencement of commercial flights operation.

Calibration, in the air system industry is a process that allows safety of air navigation by conducting regular flight inspection,calibration of test equipment systems, and surveillance of airspace system.

The technical adviser to the governor on Airport Project , AVM Sunday Makinde (rtd), said the landing of the calibrator aircraft as well as the calibration exercise by NAMA officials was a major step in the final approval for commercial operations at the airport.

The minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, who recently arrived flew into the state  and   later departed the airport through the same aircraft that brought him in to inspect the facilities at the airport said the Ekiti State Agro- Allied

International Cargo Airport, Ado-Ekiti is 99.5 percent completed and ready for full commercial operations.

Governor Oyebanji, who accompanied the minister to the airport, said the completion of the project was a dream come true in line with the vision of the immediate past governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi who started the it and that of the current administration.

The chief executive officer of Air Peace Limited, Dr Allen Onyema, lauded the state-of-the-art facilities and operational efficiency of the Ekiti State Agro Allied International Cargo Airport, describing it as one of the best in the world.
