Stakeholders Raise Concerns Over Sack Of APC Members In Edo Government

Some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State have expressed concerns over the manner in which certain party members serving in the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo have been relieved of their duties.

The stakeholders, led by Mr Famous Oboh, said the frequent announcement of dismissals through official statements, sometimes accompanied by allegations of misconduct, has generated unease within the party.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Oboh noted that several party members who contributed to the emergence of the current administration had been removed from office within the last year, adding that the affected individuals were not publicly afforded the opportunity to respond to the allegations made against them.

According to him, the dismissals, often communicated through statements signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Musa Umaru Ikhilor, have raised concerns among party faithful regarding internal cohesion and morale.

A former commissioner, who spoke anonymously, said the uncertainty surrounding tenure in government had become a source of anxiety for some appointees, noting that removals are sometimes announced without prior engagement.

The stakeholders cited several cases, including the dismissal of Dr Maureen Ekhoragbon, Barrister Damian Lawani, Alhaji Ahmed Musa and Mr Fred Itua, a former Chief Press Secretary to the governor amongst others.

The group also alleged what it described as uneven handling of disciplinary matters across different parts of the state, though it did not provide official documentation to support the claim.

A former commissioner from Edo North, now seeking elective office, said the prevailing uncertainty had prompted some appointees to consider alternative political options.

The stakeholders appealed to the national leadership of the APC to engage with the Edo State Government in order to address the concerns and ensure party unity.

They maintained that transparent processes and clear communication would help strengthen trust within the party and prevent further disaffection.
