Stakeholders in Nigeria’s beauty industry have called for greater support for women entrepreneurs to enable them build sustainable businesses and contribute meaningfully to economic growth.
The call was made over the weekend in Abuja during the 15th anniversary celebration of The Nail Bar, a beauty and wellness firm founded by an entrepreneur Ameera Abraham.
At the event, Abraham said the company was established with the vision of transforming clients’ wellbeing while boosting their confidence and self-esteem through beauty, nutrition and wellness services.
According to her, building the brand came with challenges, particularly in its early years, but persistence and hard work helped the business grow over time.
“The business was driven by the wholesome before-and-after transformation of our clients and the self-esteem that comes with it,” she said.
She added that, despite the difficulties encountered at the start, the company remained focused on building a strong foundation to sustain its growth.
“It was not easy at the beginning, but with structure, hard work and consistency, the business has grown from strength to strength over the last 15 years,” she said.
In a goodwill message, Abraham’s mother, Aisha Abraham, recalled that she initially advised her daughter to pursue a conventional job to gain experience before venturing into business.
She said she later supported the idea after recognising her daughter’s determination to become an entrepreneur and an employer of labour.
Also speaking, former First Lady of Kebbi State, Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, commended Abraham for her innovation and leadership in the beauty industry.
She also expressed support for the entrepreneur’s newly launched foundation and encouraged her to continue expanding her impact.
On her part, the Chief Executive Officer of A.S Management Agency, Rhoda Kusimo Iloba stressed the importance of access to information for business growth.
According to her, information remains key to unlocking access to finance and other opportunities needed to sustain businesses for women entrepreneurs in the beauty sector.
She urged women to believe in their potential, noting that entrepreneurship requires confidence, resilience and consistent hard work.
The event featured award presentations and panel discussions focusing on sustainability, access to finance and the growth of women-led businesses in the beauty industry.
