Stakeholders are set to discuss good governance as it pertains to the flourishing of a nation’s economy at the 47th annual conference, and dinner award of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN).
The conference which is slated for 21 and 22, September 2023, in Lagos, will focus on the subject, ‘Sound governance as a cursor to a thriving economy: a case for inclusiveness.’
According to the institute, the overarching aim of the conference is to explore various approaches through open dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, even as it is hoped that meaningful solutions can be identified that will lead to sustainable economic growth and development for all members of society.
Speaking on behalf of ICSAN president, Mrs Funmi Ekundayo; the vice president, Mrs Uto Ukpanah, said: “as we are all aware, governance is the mechanism, practices and procedures where government and its people manage their resources and also solve public problems.
“As such, we know how important sound governance is and this plays a key role in enhancing integrity and efficiency while poor governance weakens a country’s potential and can open the way for unethical and corrupt practices.
“We as an institute are a society where governance is inclusive, it effectively serves everybody and that is the reason we are engaging all stakeholders including various facets of diversity both in public and private space to the conference.”
Various speakers expected at the event include the chief host and president, ICSAN, Mrs Funmi Ekundayo; chairman of the conference and founding partner, Banwoand Ighodalo, Mr Asue Ighodalo. Keynote speakers are, the vice-chancellor, Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, Prof. RNase Okonedo; vice chancellor, Are Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde and executive general manager/ company secretary, Total Energies Marketing Nigeria PLC, Mrs Bunmi Popoola-Mordi. The panellists are the chairman, Akwa Ibom Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Ekerebong Umoh and legal director/ company secretary, Nigerian Breweries PLC, Mr Uaboi Agbebaku.
