Stakeholders Urged To Support Nigeria’s Transmission Company

A group, Network of Advocacy for Positive Impact Initiative (NAPII), has appealed to stakeholders to exercise caution and responsibility in discussions regarding the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

It stressed the need to support critical national institutions to deliver on their mandates.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, NAPII executive secretary, Comrade William Bassey, said the session was convened to “set the record straight” on recent allegations on TCN’s operations and leadership.

Bassey described the electricity transmission system as the backbone of Nigeria’s power supply, connecting generation companies to distribution networks nationwide.

While recognising the rights of labour organisations and other stakeholders to raise concerns, Bassey cautioned that public allegations made outside established institutional channels could undermine trust in the crucial national utility.

He said that procurement, management, and operational decisions at TCN are governed by regulatory frameworks overseen by the Federal Ministry of Power and other authorities, thereby ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance.

Highlighting the operational challenges of maintaining transmission assets across the nation, including difficult terrains, Bassey called on the stakeholders to allow TCN management to carry out its mandate without distraction.

He also urged a patriotic and constructive approach, advocating dialogue, evidence-based discussions and institutional engagement over public confrontation.

“Our position is simple and clear: national institutions central to the functioning of our economy must be supported, strengthened and constructively scrutinised through proper channels—not weakened by wild allegations that may distort public perception,” he said.

Bassey concluded by reaffirming NAPII’s commitment to promoting transparency, responsible advocacy and balanced public engagement in advancing Nigeria’s development goals.
