Pupils of Blossomhall School treated parents and guests to various cultural renditions, dances and exhibitions of cuisines of ethnic groups across the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria as the school commemorated the country’s 64th anniversary and Cultural Day in Abuja on Friday.
The anniversary is marked by the school annually with cultures in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country showcased.
This year’s edition themed, “Nigeria @ 64: Journey to the South-South”, focused on the South-South’s cultural heritage.
The Mother of the Day at the occasion, Mrs Alanyingi Sylva, said the event afforded her the opportunity to witness the lavish display of South-South culture by the pupils.
She stressed the importance of parents ensuring that their children speak their native languages, adding that Nigerians should not give up on the country, but continue to pray for its recovery.
Special assistant to the president on print media, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, said it was sad that certain languages were already going extinct.
He urged Nigerians to play their parts at individual levels, no matter what they think about the country, to ensure that the country attains the desired greatness.
The proprietress of the school, Mrs Remi John, said the purpose of the programme was to celebrate Nigeria.
She stressed the need for Nigerians to imbibe the culture of being proud of their culture and the country, tasking all citizens to be patriotic in spite of whatever they might consider wrong.
