United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer and United States President Donald Trump have agreed to strengthen military cooperation between their countries following tensions over Britain’s initial response to strikes on Iran.
The two leaders held talks on Sunday on the escalating security situation in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing tensions involving Iran.
According to a statement from 10 Downing Street, both leaders discussed joint defence efforts and agreed on enhanced UK-US “military cooperation,” including the use of Royal Air Force bases to support the collective self-defence of allies in the region.
During the call, Starmer also expressed sympathy to the United States following the death of American soldiers in Kuwait.
“Starmer shared his heartfelt condolences with President Trump and the American people over the death of U.S. soldiers in Kuwait,” the Downing Street readout said.
Britain had earlier declined to join.
