The Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria (CISON) has opened formal discussions with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) as part of efforts to deepen collaboration between Nigeria’s foremost statistical authority and the country’s leading policy think tank.

CISON’s Registrar, Mrs. Ngozi  Agboegbulem, who led the delegation of the Governing Council,  visited the Director-General of NIPSS, Ayo Omotayo, at the Institute’s headquarters in Kuru, where she presented CISON’s renewed vision and expanded national mandate following the passage of the CISON Act, 2022.

According to her, the visit aims to ensure that Nigeria’s strategic policy development increasingly relies on professionally generated and high-quality data.

The Council members briefed the NIPSS leadership on CISON’s evolving statutory responsibilities, noting that the 2022 Act has repositioned the Institute to play a more assertive role in regulating statistical practice, enforcing ethical standards and driving capacity development nationwide.

They also highlighted CISON’s organisational structure, its nationwide chapters, and the Institute’s ongoing training programmes designed to build a new generation of data professionals capable of supporting national planning and development.

LEADERSHIP reports that a key focus of the engagement was identifying areas for partnership in data application for policy formulation, strategic analysis, and evidence-based governance.

The Director-General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, in his remarks, commended CISON for the visit, noting that effective National development depends on accurate and reliable data. He expressed readiness to collaborate through joint research, specialised training, and strengthened analytical support to government agencies.
