Stella Parton has spoken about the loss of her older sister, Dolly Parton, saying her family is still coming to terms with the country music legend’s death.
Dolly died aged 80 on August 25 after a “brief battle with cancer”, according to her representatives. Ten days later, Stella addressed the loss in an Instagram post during her regular “coffee hour”.
She thanked people who had shown genuine love and support to the family, while acknowledging that each member would deal with the bereavement differently.
Stella also expressed frustration over the amount of misinformation circulating online, particularly content generated or amplified by artificial intelligence.
She said the family had faced “incredible pressure and insensitivity from strangers” because of their lives in the public eye, adding that the constant stream of what she described as “endless misinformation” had been difficult to process.
Despite the pain, Stella said she believed Dolly would have been both surprised and pleased by the affection shown to her and her family.
She also recalled her sister’s love for her fans and the public, saying Dolly deliberately avoided expressing strong views on subjects including politics, religion and other public figures.
