The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Mohammed Usman Zuru has urged the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to stop the campaign of calumny against the Governor Nasir Idris-led administration for the interest of the state.
He made the call in a statement he issued yesterday in Birnin Kebbi.
He said, “My attention has been drawn to the write-up made by the PDP leadership of Kebbi State recently against the Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris on Facebook and other media platforms over the governor’s cautioning of religious leaders against castigating leaders.”
According to him, the write-up was elegantly dressed up to impress and mislead the people of Kebbi State under the pretence of opposition concerns.
The speaker noted that the governor will definitely not sit down to watch citizens publishing vulgar and defamatory statements that are likely to endanger public peace all in the guise of freedom of expression.
“Though freedom of expression is contained in section 39 of the 1999 Constitution while section 40 deals with freedom of association, the two cannot be merged together in this circumstance as they are talking about two different things,” Zuru said.
He called on members of the PDP to join the APC-led government to move the state forward instead of other selfish interests that could cause rifts between people.
