Stop Giving Proceeds Of Subsidy Removal To Govs, Vatsa Urges Tinubu

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, Hon Jonathan Vatsa, has called on President Bola Tinubu to invest proceeds from the removal of fuel subsidy into development programmes instead of giving it to governors.

The comment is coming after President Tinubu urged state governors to stop constructing flyovers.
The party chieftain who was the first publicity secretary of the APC in the state told journalists yesterday in Minna that the president should emulate the late General Sani Abacha’s Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) and former President Goodluck Jonathan’s SURE-P models.

He said Nigerians are going through hard times because some of the governors misplaced priorities on what would boost the nation’s human development index and improve the standard of living of the people by embarking on self-serving projects.

Referring to President Tinubu’s statement on governors building flyovers where there were less traffic and channel such resources to genuine development, Vatsa alleged that “the construction of most of these flyovers were mere conduit pipes for the governors.”

The APC chieftain said, from President Tinubu’s statement, “It shows that he is aware that the governors are the biggest problem of his administration and the party.

“They are becoming agents of underdevelopment, the president should stop giving them excess money because the people don’t feel the impact.”

He posited that the resistance and backlash from the people against the APC administration and the entire party was due to the hardship in the country caused by some of the governors who have personalised governance.
