The proposed meeting between the Federal Government and leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), earlier scheduled for Monday, has been postponed.

President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, who confirmed this to newsmen on Monday, said the meeting will no longer be held as earlier announced by the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, on Friday.

Although no reason was given for the postponement, the meeting is now expected to be held on Wednesday, August 28.

It would be recalled that ASUU, few days ago, issued a 21-day notice of strike to the Federal Government over several unresolved issues, notably, emergency revitalisation fund of public universities, payment of outstanding earned academic allowances; and release of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and third-party deductions from its members.

The other issues include stoppage of illegal recruitments, proliferation of public universities/abuse of universities’ laws, regulations and processes and removal of universities from the treasury single account as well as new IPPIS vis-a-vis to herald the autonomy of the universities.
