Minority leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, has called for stronger institutions, improved policy implementation, and effective reward and punishment systems as key measures to enhance political stability in Nigeria.

Chinda made the call on the sidelines of the 18th LEADERSHIP Conference and Awards, where stakeholders deliberated on the theme, “Political Stability in a Continuously Unstable Global System.”

Chinda said Nigeria’s global image largely depends on how citizens project the country, noting that Nigerians continue to excel internationally despite internal challenges.

He said, “Image and perception depend on how you look at it. Nigerians are doing well outside the shores of this country, which is a positive aspect. But nobody will blow your trumpet unless you blow it yourself.

Also, Hon. Peter Ifanyi Uzokwe emphasised the importance of justice as a critical factor in promoting political stability and national development.

Uzokwe said leaders and citizens must prioritise fairness in decision-making, warning that the absence of justice undermines governance and public trust.

Similarly, Hon. George Osodi Nwobi underscored the need for institutional strengthening and inclusive governance, including increased representation of women in politics.

Nwobi said lawmakers are committed to reforms such as electronic transmission of election results, which he described as crucial to enhancing transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral system.

He added that legislators are actively engaging public opinion in shaping electoral laws to ensure broader acceptance and trust in democratic processes.

The conference brought together political leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for sustaining governance stability amid global political and economic uncertainties.
