Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Kenneth Ogazi, has said the Obidient movement in the Labour Party cannot uproot the governing APC in the state.
The ‘Obidients’ are followers and supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP), presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
Ogazi, who spoke to newsmen in Owerri, yesterday, said the APC in Imo State led by Governor Hope Uzodimma remains the party to beat.
He said the Labour Party or Obidients movement have no structure, thus it will be impossible for the group or party to displace the APC, which is already grounded and rooted in the State.
“How can a group which exists on social media, which in reality has no serious political structure, displace a ruling party, which has formidable and impressive structure from the ward to the federal level?
“Politics is no rocket science, It is not magic. No political party functions from the air. It has to be on ground, where are they in Imo State? Do they exist?
“Winning elections is not about social media. Social media do have its limitations when it comes to winning elections particularly in Nigeria.
“The APC came to power in 2015 not solely through social media.
“We were able to defeat Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because the APC was formidable. We had structures and presence in the 774 local governments and all the wards in the country. They were not existing only on social media. The social media has no vote. There are no polling units on the internet.
“Where are the structures of the Obidients or Labour party in Imo State?. Is it those who lost primaries in APC and in the PDP, who now jumped over to the labour party? Are they the emergency structure of the Labour party in Imo State?
“Check history, no political party without structure has won elections. It is simply not possible.
“In Imo State, the dominant political parties win elections, not parties with no structure.
