The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN),has advised its students to avoid night travels.
It also urged students to always seek permission from the Student Affairs Department before embarking on trips outside the university’s campuses, adding that it is for their safety and wellbeing.
The university gave the advice through a statement issued by its acting Public Relations Officer, Inya Agha Egwu.
UNN was reacting to the tragic news of a road accident involving 10 of its students on the night of Saturday, November 1, 2025, along the Opi -Nsukka Road.
Egwu noted that the students were reportedly on their way from Nsukka to Enugu to attend a music concert organised by popular Nigerian artiste, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
“Regrettably, Nwankwo Chukwuebuka Chrisantus, a third-year student in the Department of Economics, lost his life in the accident. Other students who sustained varying degrees of injury were admitted at the Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka. Some of them have been discharged while others with more serious injuries are still receiving treatment at the hospital.
“The University Management and the entire University Community commiserate with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased student and prays for the repose of his soul. The Management equally wishes the injured students a speedy and full recovery.
“The University of Nigeria also uses this sad moment to advise all its students to avoid unnecessary and night travels and to always seek permission from the Student Affairs Department before embarking on trips outside the University’s campuses. This is in the interest of their safety and wellbeing.
“The University of Nigeria will always prioritize the welfare and safety of all students and will continue to provide the necessary support to those affected by this unfortunate incident” he assured.
