Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno has donated a two-bedroom bungalow to a 90-year-old homeless widow, Mrs. Christiana Tom, in a compassionate gesture of his administration to the less-privileged in the state.

Commissioning and handing over the home at a brief ceremony at Atan village in Ikot Ekpene local government area at the weekend, Governor prayed for sustainable health and life for the beneficiary, saying the gesture was in line with his administration’s quest to cushion the excruciating effects of hardship on citizens, especially the very poor.

“This is pursuant to the government’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens, particularly the vulnerable and the less privileged in Akwa Ibom State,” the governor stated while handing over the fully-furnished two – bedroom bungalow with solar-powered amenities to the widow.

Umo also commissioned the newly constructed 1.1 Kilometer Spring Road project including a 0.875km discharge drainage system that connects the Goretti Girls Secondary School (GSS), amid jubilations by the local residents, who noted that fixing the road has ended over a decade hardship faced by students, teachers, and residents of the area.

Governor Eno therefore commended members of the state government’s humanitarian team for their dedication to interpreting the vision of the administration by always ensuring the right people were spotted to benefit from the humanitarian gesture.

Special Assistant to the Governor on Humanitarian Affairs, Elder Nsikan Umoekpo, described the house as “one of the new set of houses that Governor Eno is donating to the homeless people in his target of completing 200 compassionate homes in his second year in office.

Responding, the beneficiary, Madam Tom, who was visibly overwhelmed with joy, appreciated the Governor “for remembering and touching the lives of the poorest of the poor,” and prayed for God’s continuous blessings on him, his family and the Akwa Ibom State.
