Suceeders have emerged champions of the maiden Kaduna Sallah Slam Beach Volleyball tournament after beating Diamond Spikers in the final of the senior men category of the competition held at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
Diamond Spikers finished second, while Police Machine placed third.
For their efforts, they were presented with trophies, medals and N120,000, N100,000 and N80,000 respectively.
In the Senior Women category, Young Eagles finished top to claim the winning cash prize of N120,000. The second and third placed teams, Filkom Academy and Succeeders, got N100,000 and N50,000 respectively.
In the Junior Boys category, Kada Prince beat all opponents to the N100,000 prize for first position. Filkom Academy settled for the second position and were rewarded N70,000, while Destiny Hands who placed third, smiled to the bank with N50,000.
Unlike their male counterparts, Destiny Hands stole the show in the Junior Girls category, pocketing N100,000 for their efforts.
GG Queens were second, N70,000, while Flourish Academy placed third, claiming N50,000.
In his remarks at the closing ceremony, Chairman Kaduna State Volleyball Association (KADSVA), Engineer Musa Nimrod said that the board is making plans to bring back the state’s volleyball league.
“As this competition is going on, a national camp for U-19 girls is going on. For those of you who have won, don’t go and sleep, next year, we will be here again,” he said.
He commended Lt. Col Julius Usman for donating the trophies.
He said he was impressed that he has seen new players in Kaduna State with over 43 teams that participated.
“Kaduna has to defend it’s position being the number one in Nigeria the need to get players to replace those ageing,” he explained.
