Suleja local government area chairman, Hon Isyaku Bawa Naibi, has directed the closure of Madalla Weekly Market within one-week.
The chairman’s directive was contained in a press release yesterday signed by his chief press secretary, Haruna Garba.
He said the closure of the market was prompted by the perennial traffic hold-up around the area on the Kaduna- Abuja Highway due to the encroachment into the road by the traders and commuters which hinders the smooth movement of vehicles along the road despite several warnings and efforts to decongest the vicinity of the market by the local government taskforce.
“The chairman gave the one-week ultimatum to enable the marketers to vacate the premise of the market and ensure the general public is well informed of this directive.
“An emergency security meeting to fashion out measures for achieving total compliance with the directive was conveyed at the council chamber.
“Also, security personnel are mandated to ensure total compliance with this directive and to prevent any breach of peace in and around the market premises.
“The general public is enjoined to be aware of this directive,” Garba said.
