For Nigeria to have absolute peace across the northern and southern parts of the country there must be a collective responsibility by all citizens.
These was the views of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III and former Chief of Army Staff, Abubakar Danbazau on Monday at the 1st Media Practitioners Forum and Security Submit organised by Kebbi State government in collaboration with Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum ( ABMPF) held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi
Sultan Sa’ad who described the submit as timely noted that it has come when citizens of this nation will accept reality because according to him, the nation is under attack of allegations of killings and kidnappings.
He said, “This is another forum to discuss issues related to Insecurity after the one we held recently at the traditional rulers assembly meeting held in Kebbi.”
He said they are going to take measures to clear all sorts of banditry and other criminal activities in Northern Nigeria.
He cited the example of the deputy speaker of Kebbi State who was abducted and millions was paid to his abductors before he was released which he described as unfortunate.
On the issue of United States President Donald Trump, Sultan Sa’ad urged Nigeria not to allow other countries to divide them and assured that despite the present challenges, Nigeria will remain great and united.
Also, the former Chief of Army Staff, Abubakar Danbazau in his presentation suggested that for the nation to be free from insecurity, problems of poverty, climate change, unemployment and utilisation of statutory federation funds must be solved.
According to him, the influx of religious extremists into the country has contributed to insecurity which needed collective action to fight them or banish them from the country.
He urged governors in the North to utilise their federation account resources by creating job opportunities and establishing more industries for economic gains.
According to him, indices indicated that due to banditry activities, about 10 million children are denied access to both primary and secondary schools in the Northern Nigeria.
The governor of Nasarawa State, Engr Abdullahi Sule in an audio clip presented at the event commended the organisers noting that issues of insecurity were already discussed during the Northern Governors Forum meeting.
” And a lot have been achieved, security personnel were dispatched everywhere in the Northern part of the country,” he added.
