Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, on Wednesday, visited Kogi West, known as Okunland in Kogi State, where he met with Obaro of Kabba as part of engagements over rising insecurity affecting Yoruba-speaking communities.

Igboho, who arrived in Kabba with a delegation of associates, was received at the palace of the Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi.

A video circulating online showed the activist and his entourage being welcomed at the palace, where closed-door discussions were later held.

Speaking during the visit, Igboho decried the spate of kidnappings in the Okun land part of Kogi State, questioning how criminals could operate freely despite the presence of authorities, while also commending President Bola Tinubu.

ā€œHow can they come into our homes to kidnap us and still demand millions in ransom in a town that has authorities? We are grateful that our president heard us. May he live long, and may his next tenure come with ease, because Tinubu will surely become president for a second time, we all know that. The past leaders did eight years, so Tinubu will also do eight years,ā€ he said.

Igboho also lauded the Kabba monarch, saying, ā€œHe is a good leader, and it is because his reign has been commendable that he gave me the opportunity to come and discuss what we can do about the issue of insecurity. Anywhere my language is spoken is my home. We Yoruba are all one.ā€

He expressed confidence that ongoing efforts would help restore peace, noting that coordinated action among stakeholders would be key to addressing the security challenges.

ā€œIt is the arms they use to scare our people, and we will collect all those arms with ease. The president has instructed us to prepare 50,000 people, and we have assured him that we will mobilise even more than that. There will be peace in Kogi, Kwara, and every part of Yorubaland.

ā€œWe will not only catch these bandits, but we will also bring them to you alive for you to hand over to the government, so they will know that we are truly working. With the help of God, the support of the monarch, the president, and security personnel, we will overcome these bandits,ā€ Igboho added.

The visit comes amid escalating security challenges in Okunland and neighbouring Kwara State, where communities have grappled with persistent cases of kidnapping, violent attacks, and rising fear among residents. The situation has also disrupted farming activities and economic life in several parts of the area, with locals increasingly avoiding farms and inter-community travel due to safety concerns.
