Captain of the Nigerian Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa, has called on Nigerian political leaders to curb the ongoing violence in Benue State.

Musa, who condemned the recent killings in the state, also urged leaders to take decisive action to prevent further bloodshed in Benue communities.

In a statement shared on his X, the Super Eagles captain expressed his deep concern over the escalating violence, describing the attacks as “another wave of heartbreaking killings.”

“How many more lives must be lost before real action is taken? We can’t keep condemning violence and then moving on. Don’t wait until it happens close to home or to someone you know — speak out now,” he said.

The Kano Pillars forward emphasised the need for consistent action from leaders, stating, “Governance is not just for election season. We need consistent action, not seasonal appearances. We demand more. We deserve better. Benue deserves peace. Nigeria deserves better.”

Musa extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent violence, praying for strength for those affected by the tragedy.

Reports indicate that over 200 persons were killed during an attack in Yelwata, Guma local government area, predominantly involving internally displaced persons seeking refuge at a local Catholic mission.

Benue State governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia reported that the attackers, believed to be armed herders, invaded Yelwata via a river and initially targeted military and police checkpoints before carrying out the assault on the community.

In response to the escalating violence, President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Benue State on Wednesday to address the recent escalated insecurity situation in the state.
