The Super Eagles and officials have boarded their aircraft to depart Libya for Nigeria following a botched Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match slated for Tuesday.

The Super Eagles were initially stranded for about 14 hours after their aircraft was diverted to another city in the North African country.

LEADERSHIP reports that the Libyan authorities had allegedly refused to grant permission for the Super Eagles’ chartered flight to refuel and return to Nigeria.

Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed the latest development on her X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday evening.

“Super Eagles team now boarding. Journey mercies to all of them,” Dabiri-Erewa wrote.
