In a devastating blow to both club and country, Super Eagles and Werder Bremen’s striker, Victor Boniface, has unfortunately been ruled out for the remainder of the current football season due to an ongoing injury.
The Nigerian international has been sidelined for several months, having sustained an injury that has kept him out of all competitive action. While the lanky forward has commendably commenced his rigorous rehabilitation programme, the Bundesliga club confirmed yesterday that he will not be making a return to the pitch before the conclusion of the current campaign.
Providing an update on Boniface’s condition, Clemens Fritz Niemeyer, Werder Bremen’s Head of Professional Football, informed DeichStube that the club remains encouraged by the player’s recovery process. However, he regretfully admitted that a return this season is now highly improbable.
“He’s currently completing his rehabilitation in Leverkusen, and we are delighted with every bit of progress he makes. But it remains impossible to predict precisely how quickly he will be fully fit again,” Niemeyer explained. “Given the demanding nature of the rehabilitation process, we do not anticipate Victor playing for Werder again this season.”
Boniface’s prolonged absence represents a considerable setback for Werder Bremen as they strive to consolidate their position in the Bundesliga during the crucial closing stages of the campaign. Simultaneously, the Super Eagles management will undoubtedly be closely monitoring his recovery ahead of their upcoming international engagements, with hopes of seeing their star striker back in action for future national team duties.
