In a major turn of events, Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been fully exonerated by his Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars SC, following an internal investigation into allegations of match-fixing.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper was handed a controversial three-month suspension by the club after a string of performances that raised eyebrows among the technical crew and management.
The matches in question included a CAF Confederation Cup tie against Flambeau du Centre, as well as league fixtures against Pamba Jiji FC and Namungo FC. During these games, the club felt that Obasogie’s performance dipped below expected standards, prompting suspicions of irregular activity.
However, after conducting a thorough and detailed internal probe, the Singida Black Stars hierarchy arrived at a conclusion that clears the Nigerian of any wrongdoing.
In an official statement released to the public, the club confirmed that the investigation yielded no evidence to substantiate the match-fixing claims. The statement clarified that the performances that sparked the controversy were, upon review, attributable to standard sporting factors rather than foul play.
“The incidents that raised concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game,” the club’s statement read, effectively lifting the cloud of suspicion that had been hanging over the player.
With the investigation concluded and his name cleared, Obasogie has been given the green light to resume full duties with the team, now under the management of head coach Othmen Najjar. The former Bendel Insurance shot-stopper is expected to rejoin his teammates immediately as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
Obasogie, who has been on the fringes of the Super Eagles squad, joined Singida Black Stars last year following a stint with Ethiopian outfit Fasil Kenema. His return to action will be a significant boost for the Tanzanian side as they look to solidify their season.
