The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed deep concern over the prevailing threats to Nigeria’s sovereignty, particularly in light of the country’s ongoing security challenges.
The national publicity secretary of SDP, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, in a statement yesterday in Abuja, highlighted the underwhelming performance of the nation’s security architecture in containing the activities of insurgents and bandits that have plagued the country for close to two decades.
He emphasised the government’s duty to protect the lives and property of its citizens, as enshrined in the Constitution and acknowledged the international concern over Nigeria’s security situation.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the country’s sovereignty and urged against external interventions that could infringe on Nigeria’s autonomy.
The party spokesman also cautioned against potential foreign invasions, citing the disastrous consequences of past interventions in other countries.
“We call on President Trump to offer concrete military support and intelligence collaboration to Nigeria, rather than considering military intervention and urged President Tinubu to prioritise national security and the welfare of Nigerians over political considerations,” he said.
