The leaders of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria, yesterday, advocated an interactive and collective responsibility approach in fighting the menace of insecurity in Nigeria.
The council, while appealing for the re-examination of the existing process of securing the nation, said there can never be peace without justice.
They made the appeal during a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff ( CDS), General Christopher Musa at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
In a statement by the acting director Defence Information, Brig-Gen Tukur Gusau, the leader of the delegation, Dr Bashir Aliyu Umar said the visit was to seek first-hand information on the general efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) towards addressing insecurity in Nigeria.
He said the council membership is composed of respected Islamic leaders who have direct access and impact on ordinary Nigerians.
He said these leaders are „ actively involved in appealing to the common Nigerians through their daily contact.“
Other speakers at the event praised the CDS for his uncommon leadership qualities and neutrality in the discharge of his responsibilities.
They also called for team work and the use of modern technology to fight insecurity.
In his response, General Musa welcomed the delegation and expressed his optimism in ending insecurity in the country.
The CDS said the composition of the council membership and the zeal to visit DHQ with an open mind for truth, showed the seriousness towards arresting the scourge.
He added that AFN has remained very professional in their conduct during operations.
He however noted that there are few bad eggs among the troops, which he promises will be filtered out.
The CDS disclosed that during his tenure as the theatre Commander in the North East, about 75,000 members of the Boko Haram and family surrendered.
He added that the number has risen above 100,000.
