Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has said the recent Supreme Court judgment on the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has prevented any faction from taking control of the party.

Reacting to the judgment, the governor said that neither their camp led by Tanimu Turaki nor the one loyal to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, achieved total victory.

He, however, expressed satisfaction that efforts by his camp helped to stop what he described as an attempt by Wike to take over the PDP.

“We have succeeded in ensuring that no single individual hijacks the party,” he said.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa posted on Saturday, Mohammed said, “As democrats who respect the rule of law, we accept the judgment. But it is not a victory for anyone.”

On the future of the PDP, the governor explained that the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) would temporarily oversee its affairs in line with its constitution until a caretaker committee is constituted.

He also accused Wike of working against the PDP, claiming that the minister and his associates have ties with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), an allegation Wike has not publicly confirmed.

The governor revealed that he and his supporters are considering leaving the PDP to pursue their political ambitions on another platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the decision is aimed at giving his supporters the opportunity to contest elective positions without uncertainties.

“Our hearts remain with the PDP, but politically we must move forward,” he said.

The governor confirmed his intention to contest for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat in 2027, adding that consultations are ongoing with alternative political parties.

“We are engaging with parties that are stable and free of internal crises so that our supporters can contest elections without obstacles,” he added.

Governor Mohammed further alleged that there are deliberate efforts to weaken opposition parties ahead of the elections, stressing the need for strategic political decisions.

He assured supporters that a clear direction would soon be announced regarding the platform they will adopt.
