Gunmen suspected to be cultists, on Saturday night, killed two persons at Owube community in Ahoada-West local government area of Rivers State.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the victims were on their way to Owube community also in the same local government area with some building materials, when they were ambushed by the gunmen along the Ubeta-Owube Road.
It was further gathered that one of the victims’ name was Confidence Chikalobi, who resided in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Speaking with journalists, an indigene of Ubarama community, also in Ahoada-West local government area, Major Elleh, said the other victim, who was the driver of the vehicle, was from Elemechi-Ogbogu community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state.
Ellen said: “His (Chikalobi) father’s house was brought down during the flood. He bought some building materials for repair of the house and he was gunned down by these hoodlums and the other person was from Elemechi Ogbogu, the driver of the vehicle, all in Owube community .
“I call on stakeholders and the LGA Chairman to give necessary support to the new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and other security agencies in the area to clamp down on criminal elements.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, did not respond to text messages sent to her known mobile phone number as at the time of filing the report.
