Delta State Police Command has arrested the suspected killers of Justice Ifeoma Okogwu (rtd).
In statement issued by the state command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) acting on credible intelligence arrested one Godwin Mngumi at Anaku in Ayamelum local government area (LGA) of Anambra State on Saturday in commection with the incident.
The 25-year old worked as the security guard for the murdered justice and is alleged to be the main suspect in the case, with the phone of the late justice recovered from him.
The statement also revealed that Mngumi has confessed to inviting a friend, one Nnaji Obalum and another friend to the home of Justice Okogwu, where they carried out the dastardly act.
While Obalum has been arrested, a manhunt is ongoing for the third suspect.
Operatives of the command had arrested one suspect over the murder of Okogwo.
On 24th November, 2025, the disional police officer (DPO) ‘A’ Division Asaba received a complaint from the brother of Okogwo that he visited her residence only to discover her lifeless body in the sitting room with her hands, legs and mouth tied.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, confirmed one suspect, Lucky Matthew, has been arrested, while the principal suspect, Godwin Vanem, was at large.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the said Godwin Vanem is suspected of having committed the dastardly act and fled the apartment. The command launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, the DPO swiftly led men to her residence, where the corpse was evacuated and taken to the mortuary for autopsy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (Homicide section) for discreet investigation.”
Abaniwonda, on behalf of the command, condoled with the family of the deceased and assured them of justice.
Recall that the victim’s brother, Ogbueshi Godfrey Okogwu who confirmed the sad incident disclosed that “My eldest sister was murdered in her house on Sunday night.”
The family has already provided Police with the name, details and logo of the private security company responsible for deploying the guards and at the same time called for justice.
“Police detained the morning guard and summoned the owner of the security outfit to report to the station. It remains unclear whether the proprietor has complied”, Okogwu stated.
