The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has apprehended several individuals suspected of stealing sewage manhole covers from highways in the territory. Security agencies are now working to identify and arrest their accomplices, including potential buyers of the stolen items.

In a statement issued by the senior special assistant on public communications and new media to the FCT minister, Lere Olayinka, said efforts are underway to tackle the vandalism perpetrated by these criminals.
The minister, Nyesom Wike, expressed deep concern over the alarming trend of people removing manhole covers for sale, highlighting the significant risk this poses to road users.

He pledged that the government would take all necessary measures to hold these offenders accountable.
Wike criticised the actions of individuals who undermine public welfare for personal gain, emphasising the inconsistency of investing taxpayer money in infrastructure while others exploit it for profit, regardless of the danger to their fellow citizens.

He also extended his gratitude to Nigerians, particularly the individual who filmed and circulated a viral video documenting the vandalism, praising this act as a commendable display of patriotism that the nation greatly needs.
