A former Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) Benue North East senatorial primary election, defeating the incumbent senator, Emmanuel Udende.
According to the official results released by the APC, Suswam who represented the senatorial district in 2019 to 2023, got 131,083 votes to defeat his opponents.
Also, a retired assistant comptroller-general (ACG) and husband of the secretary to the Benue State government (SSG), Benjamin Terseer Aber, defeated secretary to the fovernment of the federation (SGF), George Akume’s loyalist and incumbent Senator Benue North West senatorial district, Titus Zam with 93,412 votes against 2,763 votes to clinch the APC ticket.
In Benue South Senatorial District, a former member of the House of Representatives, Francis Ottah Agbo, scored 58,760 votes to defeat other five aspirants to clinch the APC senatorial ticket.
The chairman, National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Benue State, Saidu Mahuta, who announced the results in Makurdi yesterday, declared Suswam, Aber and Agbo the winners of the election having scored the highest number of votes in their senatorial districts.
Mahuta said the primaries were conducted peacefully and transparent in accordance with the guidelines of the party and the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Reacting, the senator representing Benue North West senatorial District, Titus Zam, has rejected the declared results, claiming he won the APC Senate primary election held on Monday.
Taking to his facebook page to thank supporters and voters, Zam further claimed that available results showed that he defeated other aspirants in 90 electoral wards of the senatorial district.
