Chairman, House of Representatives committee on sports development,  Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, has underscored the Importance role of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in the development of the sports in the country.
He stated this when the president of the association, Mr. Isaiah Kemje Benjamin led some members of his national executive and others on a  courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly (NASS), yesterday
He promised to carry the association along in all his committee activities.
“I want to tell you that, any stakeholder or administrator that wants to toe the line of peace and be successful, he must agree that SWAN are key critical stakeholders.
“I want to assure you that our doors are widely opened, any request you have, don’t hesitate to let us know,” Adams said.
The lawmaker expressed confidence in the new minister of sports development, Senator John Owan Enoh, to transform the sector, saying the Cross River born politician is a humble person that would listen to the legislators to jointly move the sports forward.
“I believe our dear minister that has come in is a humble person that would listen to us. He should not forget SWAN is a critical stakeholder that he must work with. We’ll do our best in ensuring the growth of sports.”
SWAN President, Isaiah Kemje Benjamin, congratulated Adams for his recent victory at the tribunal and appointment as the chairman of House Representatives’ committee on sports, describing him as the best person for the job.
“Indeed it was a well deserved victory at the polls and at the tribunal. Your appointment as House Committee on Sports is the best and I am sure sports will take a higher path. We are here to say you have started well and to encourage you to keep doing more,” he said.
He assured the committee of SWAN support and urged them to always carry the sports writers along in the activities of the committee.
“If you see the calibre of people here, you will know that we mean business. We solicit that you carry us along in all that you are doing and we won’t disappoint you,” Benjamin said. .
Meanwhile, Benjamin while also interacting with some elders and members of the association in Abuja yesterday, called for unity and professionalism among sports writers in the country.
He assured that his leadership would embark on a genuine reconciliation to bring all its registered members back on board, saying he would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all members are carried along and the association contributes to the growth of sports in the country.
“I want to assure you that my leadership will ensure genuine reconciliation among all our members. We must work together to contribute to the development of sports in the country,” he said.
