Meanwhile, the Nigerian women’s team also encountered a formidable path in Group D, clashing with the world-renowned German squad, the consistently strong Slovakian players, the experienced Polish team, and the dynamic Mexican outfit.

Each match promises thrilling rallies and fierce competition as these nations vie for top 3 positions.

Across the tournament, other African teams find themselves in equally compelling groups. Egypt, the reigning African champions, encounter Portugal, Romania, Iran, and Thailand in a battle for Group 8 supremacy.

Algeria’s men face a formidable task in Group C, matching skills with France, Australia, Denmark, and Austria. In the women’s event, Algeria contends with Chinese Taipei, USA, Thailand, and Chile in a bid to advance from Group G. South Africa’s women grapple with Japan, Brazil, Luxembourg, and Iran in Group 2, where every point earned will be crucial.

China, the defending champions in both categories, hold top seed positions.

The women’s squad faces Hungary, India, Spain, and Uzbekistan in Group 1, while the men’s team squares off against Germany, Sweden, Singapore, and Chile in Group H. Each match in these groups will be a showcase of world-class table tennis as every nation strives for gold.

With the Paris 2024 Olympics hanging in the balance, the top eight teams from the World Championships will secure automatic qualification.

The Nigerian delegation, determined to improve upon their 2023 performance where they narrowly missed out on Olympic tickets, is aiming for both teams to shine. Their journey begins February 16th in Busan, and the world of table tennis is eagerly waiting to witness the drama unfold.
