Tambuwal Clinches Senate Seat, Wamakko Gets 3rd Term

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared Governor Aminu Tambuwal winner of senatorial election after he scored 100,860 votes to wrestle the Sokoto South senatorial seat from incumbent Senator Abdullahi Danbaba of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who polled 95,884 votes.

INEC equally declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and the former governor of Sokoto State Aliyu Wamakko, winner of the Sokoto North senatorial district election.

Wamakko defeated his closest opponent, Sokoto state deputy governor, Manir Dan’Iya, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with a margin of 23,023 votes.

Announcing the results Sunday morning, the returning officer for the Sokoto North senatorial election, Ibrahim Magawata, said after the supplementary elections, the candidates of APC, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, scored total number of 141,468 to defeat Manir Dan’Iya who garnered 118,445 votes.

With his victory at the polls, Wamakko is returning to the red chamber for the third time, having first elected in 2015 after his two-term tenure as the governor of Sokoto state.

INEC also declared Ibrahim Lamido of APC winner of Sokoto East senatorial district election with 112,764 over PDP’s Shuaibu Gwanda Gobir, who polled 107,834 votes.

 

INEC, has also declared Abdussamad Dasuki of the Peoples Democratic Party, as winner of the Kebbe/Tanbuwal Federal Constituency seat with 47,317 votes to beat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress Bala Kokani Kebbe, who scored 34,282 votes

Recalled that Dasuki was in the Federal House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019 before he was defeated by Kokani during the 2019 general elections.

 

Youthful Bashir Gorau and Umar Yusuf Yabo from Gada/Goronyo, Yabo/Shagari federal constituencies completed the trio from the PDP to the House of Representatives.

 

Incumbent member representing Bodinga/Dange-Shuni/Tureta Federal Constituency, Dr Shehu Balarabe Kale, lost his seat to Hon Shehu Nasiru of the APC.

 

Kakale, could only mustered 35,687 votes and surrendered his seat to his conqueror, Hon. Shehu Nasiru, of the APC who polled 40,994 votes.

 

The rest elected on the platform of APC are, Hon Ahmad Kalambaina, Kware/Wamakko; Honourable Sa’adu Nabunkari Binji, Binji/Silame; Honourable Sani Yakubu Gudu, (Guru/Tangaza); Hon Bello Isah Ambarura, Gwadabawa/Illela; Hon Bala Hassan Abubakar III, Sokoto North/Sokoto South.

 

APC’s duo of Engr Al-Mustapha Ibrahim and Hon. Jelani Danbuga from Wurno/Rabah and Isa/Sabon Birni federal constituencies respectively, completed the Sokoto APC squad to the National Assembly.
