President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged the strategic position Taraba State occupies in Nigeria political stability and future, saying he was proud of Governor Agbu Kefas’s kind of leadership and sense of inclusivity in governance.

He spoke yesterday through his representative, Vice President Kassim Shettima, at a ceremony held in Jalingo to receive Governor Kefas who defected from the PDP to the APC.

“What make us different from other political parties that, we believe nation endure where the land recognize their strength. We believe Taraba is one of such strength.

Tinubu said it was a thing of pride that Taraba had join other APC states, especially in the North East region to deliver purposeful governance.

“In the North, the whole of the North Central sub-region has become an APC territory. Of all the seven states in the North West, only one belong to the opposition, but here in the North East, hitherto we shared states into 50/50, but with the coming of Taraba State, we believe that in fullness of time, our brothers in Adamawa and Bauchi states will follow suit and align themselves with the government at the center.

“We are excited to welcome our brother home, because we know he always belongs to us, His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas. Leadership is the courage to align destiny with reality. Today, he has shown that courage, he has understood that governance is not done in isolation but an act of partnership,” he said.

He called on the people of the state, irrespective of their tribes and religion to support the governor to enable him succeed.

Responding, Governor Kefas said his decision to join the APC was to attract development to the state.

“Let it be clear that I have moved from PDP to the APC. Some have called it defection, others called it self reservation, some say it is ambition, but I say to you, it is an out mission.

“I did not make this decision lightly, I didn’t take it for comfort, I made it with full awareness of the burden I am carrying as a servant of the people.

“This move is not for me, it is for the people of Taraba State. It is for your hungry child, it is for the farmers without access, it is for the youths without opportunities, the traders without security, I didn’t come into politics to be blind to reality.

“We must align to deliver more opportunities to the people like jobs, roads, schools, security, investments unity and progress. We cannot afford to be isolated. Taraba must plug into the center to benefit from the policies and programmes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
