The Taraba State Government has dismissed widespread rumours alleging that Governor Agbu Kefas has granted automatic tickets to certain political aspirants ahead of forthcoming general elections.
In a statement issued on Friday in Jalingo by the Special Adviser on Political Matters and Special Duties, Josiah Sabo Kente, the government described the claims as “false, baseless, and misleading,” insisting that no such commitments have been made.
According to the statement, the governor remains committed to democratic principles, emphasising internal party democracy, fairness, and equal opportunity for all aspirants.
“At no time has His Excellency made any promise of automatic tickets to any individual or group,” the statement read.
Kente noted that the clarification aligns with the position of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The state chairman, Abubakar Bawa, reiterated that the party has no provision for automatic tickets, stressing its commitment to a transparent and credible selection process,” he said.
The government said the rumours had generated unnecessary tension among aspirants, party members, and the public, necessitating an official response.
Stakeholders were urged to disregard the claims and avoid spreading unverified information that could disrupt party unity.
Reaffirming the administration’s priorities, the statement added that Governor Kefas remains focused on governance and will continue to support lawful and democratic processes within the party as election preparations continue.
The government also called on aspirants and supporters to remain calm, united, and committed to the party’s ideals.
