To strengthen academic and promote excellence in tertiary education, the Taraba State government has approved N2 billion for convocations in the state’s six tertiary institutions of learning.
The commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr Mike Dio Jen, who disclosed this in an interview with journalists, said the funds would enable the institutions to organise standard convocations for their graduates to receive their certificates.
He said graduates who have distinguished themselves during their studies would be honoured with awards for academic excellence.
Jen reiterated the commitment of Governor Agbu Kefas’ administration to repositioning the state’s education sector.
The commissioner said the initiative was aimed at reinforcing a culture that values merit, hard work, and academic achievement within the state’s higher education institutions.
“The governor is committed to ensuring that our students are not only trained but properly celebrated for their academic achievements. This allocation will allow our institutions to hold convocations that reflect the dignity of academic success,” the commissioner said.
He explained that the convocation forms part of the broader reforms implemented by the state government to improve educational standards and expand access to quality tertiary education.
Jen added that the government has continued to roll out policies and programmes to strengthen human capital development and improve learning outcomes across the state.
He pledged that education would remain a top priority of Governor Kefas’s administration through sustained budgetary support and policy interventions to create an enabling environment for academic and professional growth in the state.
