Hon. Shitu Abner, the new lawmaker representing Karim I Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, has been charged not to allow personal interest or external forces conflict with his legislative duties.
Abner, was elected on August 23, 2025, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), after the former occupant of the office resigned for higher responsibility with the state government.
The Speaker, John Kizito Bonzena, gave the charge after the swearing-in during the House proceedings in Jalingo yesterday.
Bonzena, who congratulated the member on his victory at the polls, urged him not to allow interests from any quarters jeopardise his legislative functions
he said, “Be very close to your colleagues in sharing ideas; it is only in that way that Taraba State will move forward.
“Do not allow yourself to be used by some people against your colleagues, against the progress of the state. You need the protection and support of your colleagues to succeed in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.”
The speaker further urged the lawmaker to de-emphasise the use of parties, as anything that promotes the state should be prioritized for the overall development of Taraba State.
Abner, who dedicated his victory to the people of his constituency, pledged to work for all irrespective of their party differences.
He said his tenure would prioritise the security of his constituents, the training of youths in various skills acquisition, as well as to attract development to the area.
