The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, has finally suspended its five-week industrial dispute with the state government.

ASUU had on February 18, 2026, declared an indefinite strike action over the welfare of staff, funding of the University, and other sundry issues.

The suspension brought relief to the University’s stakeholders, including students, management, and staff.

The ASUU Chairman, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, who confirmed the development on Wednesday, said the decision was reached after productive negotiations with representatives of the state government.

“Following a successful agreement between the union, its non-academic counterparts, and the Taraba State Government, both academic and non-academic staff had earlier accepted a N500 million offer by Governor Agbu Kefas to resolve the industrial dispute.

“Yes, the strike is officially suspended. We have reached a healthy agreement with the state government this afternoon, and the indefinite strike action embarked upon since February 18 is hereby suspended,” Mbave said.

He commended Governor Kefas and other stakeholders for their roles in ensuring the resumption of academic activities at Taraba State University.

Dr Mbave, however, urged the state government to be committed to the terms of the agreement to avoid further disruptions to the academic calendar.

The suspension of the strike is expected to pave the way for the immediate resumption of lectures and normal academic activities at the university.
